Yes, readers, it is that time of year again. Bake the turkey, put up the tree, get the candy canes, and prepare the milk and cookies for Santa! Do you guys still think he exists? Maybe? Well, don’t the holidays give you a nice warm feeling inside? The feeling of getting together with family and celebrating Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, Chanukah, Kwanzaa, Boxing Day, Festivus, and New Years (depending on your culture)?
What about doing whatever you want or helping your parents prepare the holiday meals? Seeing the holiday lights on the beach or the Botanical Garden? Or is the feeling a personal thing? For me, I always look forward to November and December because I always like seeing holiday decorations wherever I go. I think why I love the holidays so much is because of my birthday, December 27. When I was young, seeing Christmas trees, lights, and receiving presents on BOTH Christmas and my birthday became staples of my childhood.
Enough about me, let’s talk about snow. Now, I know (and frankly disappointed) that here in Virginia Beach, it didn’t snow last year. It’s getting cold now, so I bet it might snow eventually. Snow’s too cold for you? Well… I say MAN UP AND TAKE THE HEAT…. Er… freeze? It has snowed before during this month but it doesn’t stick to the ground.. Yet…
Who likes decorating for the holidays? Your parents put up the tree and.. you are told to.. untangle the lights for the tree… harsh! If you get through all of that, you’ll be able to put up the ornaments and candy canes. Almost done with the ornaments and your younger sibling walks into the room and bursts into tears (or flames if your sibling is… oh boy) and calls your mom. She tells you to take down all of the ornaments and do it again with your younger sibling, and they of course start by hanging up one of the candy canes.
Spending time with family is good, right? Watching Christmas specials on TV while your mom and dad are…. setting up more chairs around the dining table? “Oh shoot.. this better not be…” Before you could finish your mental sentence, your doorbell rings. You run to your bedroom and hide somewhere in the house with your weapon, a N-Strike Battle Camo Stryfe, loaded with a 35 dart drum, with a fancy grip and stock. A family walks into your home with that ONE cousin, he spots you and runs to your room and grabs your pump action Accustrike Accutrooper, he has two six dart clips and the fight is on. It’s a bloody warfare, darts flying… Am I the only one who’s had this happen? Of course, before the battle, we trade Nerf guns, since I’m more “experienced” than him. Of course, I claim victory.
Family gatherings can be two things, a nice sit-down-and-eat-and-chat situation OR a battle TO THE DEATH. I remember one time that same cousin and I decided to play some Mortal Kombat 11. I beat him.. Many times. I’m not that good though, and I always used the same character, Johnny Cage. Then, he told me to stop using him, so I used Cassie Cage. Then he told me to stop using anyone in the Cage family, knowing how gullible he was, I used Sonya Blade; however, I had to tell him that she was Johnny’s spouse.. SOOOOO I had to use a different set of character. So far, he’s banned me from playing Johnny, Sonya, Cassie, Liu Kang, Kung Lao, and basically any other character I have played as.. AND I STILL BEAT HIM!
Some people like baking, whether they’re baking cookies, pies, cakes, and other foods. Helping your parents bake and decorate cookies, sneaking some sprinkles for yourself, and eating your products. Maybe you just bake by yourself, either way it gives you a happy and good feeling when you do.
To sum it all up, Christmas (and other holidays) holds a special in my heart. Some people might agree where some don’t. Regardless, have a Happy Thanksgiving and a Merry Christmas!
